It’s that time of the year again! Back to school. Freshmen are filling their walls up with pictures of high school friends and posters of their favorite movies in a desperate attempt to make a dorm feel more like home. Sophomores are moving into their new apartments and have never been happier to finally have their own room. They’ll soon fill their room up with those same pictures and posters from freshmen year and the juniors and seniors are still having a hard time believing that they are already juniors and seniors! This is an exciting time of year with filled with new faces and new experiences! Students of all ages should get involved and attend events that appeal to you to ensure a great semester and a great foundation for your college life. There are so many upcoming events be excited about like pool parties, masquerade-themed nights at Capital City and concerts like County Line Festival and Deep Roots. A healthy a balance of fun and hard work is essential to the college experience.

My advice for the day on ensuring a great semester….It’s important to maintain a good work ethic and stay on top of schoolwork! Staying on pace is always easier than catching up. Georgia College has a spectacular tutoring and assisted learning system so take advantage of it! Ina Dillard Russell should be your new best friend. The library is a great place to go to focus on schoolwork, meet up for a study group, and/or reach out for help on any classes. Keeping an eye on the ultimate prize, earning a degree, is always a nice way to motivate yourself to study and that extra hour needed for a quiz you aren’t confident about. Maintaining the Hope Scholarship to keep Mom and Dad happy is never a bad motivator either! It’s also nice to visit those parents every now and then! They miss you. Pick a free weekend out every now and then and take a trip home. You may even get a free meal and a free load of laundry out of it! If you can’t manage a full weekend, at least call your mother. A ten-minute phone call may save her hours of worrying!

Enjoy your year Bobcats! These four years are as fleeting as they are fantastic!
