When most people think “Homecoming” they picture a big football game in the late fall. Here at Georgia College, our Homecoming takes place in the late winter at a basketball game but this is not the only thing that separates Georgia College’s Homecoming from other schools. Alumni roll into town as the homecoming weekend kicks off Friday night with a concert in Centennial Center. This small school’s concert always manages to bring in some big names. In 2015, Waka Flocka Flame and Moon Taxi headlined the concert and last year, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Dicky put on a great show. This year’s strong lineup features X Ambassadors, Hoodie Allen, Family and Friends. X Ambassadors is best known for their songs “Unsteady”, “Renegades”, and “Jungle”. Hoodie Allen’s biggest hits include “No Interruption”, “No Faith in Brooklyn”, and “All About It”. Family and Friends, the least famous of the three, are still very well known and most people at the concert will recognize their songs “Amadeus” and “My Wife, My Love”. After the concert and night of fun downtown for most, the homecoming festivities continue the follow morning with a parade featuring floats from most of Georgia College’s student organizations. After the parade, Tent City begins in the parking lot of Centennial Center in preparation of the basketball games. During Tent City, many student and campus organizations set up tents and hand out food, drinks, koozies, and more. It’s a great way to relax with friends, enjoy some free food, and pass the time before the Homecoming men’s and women’s basketball games. The girls play first at 3:30 followed by the boys at 5:30.  In between the two games they will announce the winners of the Homecoming Duke, Duchess, King, and Queen voting. The weekend wraps up with yet another opportunity for free food at the “Taste of Milledgeville” event on front campus where local restaurants pass out samples of their food. All of these events combine to create a unique, exciting, and entertaining weekend here at Georgia College!
