From the desk of Duncan Williams…

If I could give you one piece of advice to help you be successful academically, it would be to go to class. Just go to class! If a teacher doesn’t take attendance, go to class. If you’re tired and really don’t want to go to class, go to class. It’s a great habit to get into and I promise you, you will never regret going. Teachers will notice and that never hurts you once it’s time to take tests or turn in papers. Teachers reward effort. In lecture-style classes, teachers will give you hints as to what is going to be on the test and what isn’t. This will save you hours of studying and help you focus on what you actually need to know. Teachers will also tell stories and interesting details that you won’t be able to find on the online PowerPoint! This will help you remember facts and information for the test and may even cause you to get a bonus question right! While we’re on the topic of bonus points, take advantage of any and every extra credit opportunity you are provided. Bonus points add up and could very well end up being the difference between an A and a B at the end of the semester. If you never go to class you may never hear about extra credit opportunities.

Skipping class is a dangerous habit to form and can be hard to break. Putting in a little extra effort and consistently showing up to class will be ultimately beneficial to your grades throughout your college career. Don’t slip into the class-skipping wormhole! You may never find your way out and your parents will not be pleased. No excuses. Go to class.
